Detox Day 2

Day 2 Detox

One day down...nine to go!
Wow... glad I didn't have a headache yesterday because today I can't even tell you my name it hurts so bad!
Now...if you were to call the office and inform us of your headache on day 2...my staff would respond with "Congratulations! Its working!"
A headache, joint aches, body aches and foggy thinking can all be a part of the detox. And for some so is increased sense of smell, body odor, increased bowel movements...sometimes gas and increased urination...and did I mention irritability?
So if you are experiencing any of these, smile in the mirror and say "Congratulations! Its working!"

Remember, a detox is about getting rid of toxins. When you remove many of the foods that put additional stress on the system, and give your body what it needs to function optimally, the liver and the colon are busy, filtering, healing and eliminating. Your skin is also getting rid of toxins!  As your largest body organ, the skin secretes wastes and salts.  To help your skin (and eliminate potential odor) use hydrotherapy.  When showering turn the heat up as high as you can take it for 3 minutes, then as cold as you can take it for 30 seconds, repeat and always end on cold or cool.  This aids in circulation and is quite refreshing!  Even those that dislike the idea usually end up liking the results!  A sauna or whirlpool is great as well, just finish with a cool shower.  If you are serious about elimination, find a body wash that is natural, such as Burt's Bees or homemade essential oil soaps.  Consider lessening the use of fragrant lotions as your body does absorb what you apply to your skin.

I also mentioned irritability. This, for me, is something I have experienced every time I do a detox.  Its not that I am angry about eliminating foods I love (mainly coffee), I just feel different, the experience of less mental acuity and the occasional aching with a slight calorie deficiency render me a bit irritable and less able to cope with 4 children.  Experiencing this myself, I would recommend that day 2 and day 3 are timed to be over the weekend.  Today was not a day I could have been effective at work.

All this "good news"  just makes you want to sign up ASAP for the detox right?  This isn't a sales pitch. Its the honest truth, and I would rather support you with realistic expectations than fill you full of false information.  Not every aspect of a detox is lovely, but for me neither is the thought of being on medications I could avoid or having my health decisions limited because of a disease I could prevent.  There is either pain in prevention or the pain of regret.  I chose the former...and hope you do too!

So this morning after I remembered my name, breakfast was had the lentil soup I made yesterday.  When I made it yesterday, I made my own version, it was a bit salty for my liking so I added a can of pumpkin....loved it!

I will have Gwyn add a recipe for Pumpkin chili with black beans and garbanzo beans.

Snack: 2 scoops of Ultrameal, frozen blueberries, 1/2 banana

Lunch: quinoa salad and an apple, herbal tea the  quinoa recipe is at the end of the blog

Snack: grapes
Dynamic greens drink

Dinner: Mashed cauliflower with seasoning, a bit more lentil soup (made a large batch and the detox won't allow it for days 4-7)
 2 scoops Ultrameal InflamX

lots of water and herbal tea

Experienced  headache and body aches...and increased abdominal gas.
therefore added: Advaclear 1 tab at lunch and dinner
                          Ultraflora Plus (probiotic- good bacteria)

Quinoa Salad:

3 cups cooked quinoa
1 apple chopped into 1/2" pieces
1 pepper (any color) chopped into 1/2" pieces
1 Tbsp basil or 1/2 cup fresh basil
6 Tbsp fresh lemon juice or lime juice or combo
3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp sea salt
Fresh ground pepper

1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups water and 1 cup pre-washed quinoa.
2. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to a simmer and cook, covered, until water is absorbed, about 15 minutes.  Spread cooked quinoa on a plate to cool.
3. In a large bowl, toss together ingredients and add in lemon juice, oil and salt. Pepper to taste.

When not using this recipie for the detox, add in 2 cups of roasted chicken

There is red, white, and tricolor quinoa. I used tricolor.  If the quinoa hasn't been fully cleaned and rinsed, rinse it well before cooking to remove the off-tasting coating of saponin, which the plant naturally produces to keep birds and insects at bay.

Mashed Cauliflower

Frozen or fresh cauliflower
pinch of salt
Steam or cook in minimal amount of water until it falls apart when pierced with fork.  Drain water and mash as you would potatoes, add seasoning to taste.
